Accessibility

Our accessibility commitment and how to report a barrier.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the whole site.

What we do

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator and a “Skip to main content” link.
  • Text and controls meet AA colour contrast in light and dark modes, and colour is never the only way information is shown (for example, evidence grades always carry a text label).
  • Tables have captions and header cells; any chart comes with a text description and a data table.
  • The site respects your system’s reduced-motion setting and works when zoomed to 400%.
  • We test with automated tools (axe-core and Lighthouse), by keyboard, and with a screen reader before each major release.

Known limitations

  • Search needs JavaScript. Without it, you can browse research, the library and topics instead.
  • Linked source documents (journal PDFs and publisher pages) are outside our control and may not be accessible.

Report a barrier
